Children of all ages can come to know God
We're here to help!
Children 0 to 12 years old
Every Sunday in school term, children join the adults in Church at 9.30am for Bible readings, some hymns and a song accompanied on guitar by Fr Paul. Fr Paul or one of our lay ministers offer the children a discussion or drama about a Bible story relevant to the day. After that, the children go with Sue Phelps to further explore the Bible story with craft and more discussion. They finish in time for everyone to come back to Church for the Thanksgiving Feast.
Children from age 7 who would like to learn more about the Christian faith
Older children, or those who have chosen baptism recently participate in the chapel for Morning Prayer for Beginners. This is also a way for children seeking baptism to become prepared for it, and suits those with a disability for whom the main service presents difficulties. Morning Prayer for Beginners uses development-appropriate language for the readings of the day, songs and prayer. We cover the basics of the faith: the Creed, Jesus' Summary of the Law, Prayer in all its forms, the Sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist, and we seek to identify and fulfil our own Ministry. We join the adults after the sermon to participate in the Great Thanksgiving Feast. This starts at 9am every Sunday. See a sample of our weekly Bible readings for beginners (these match the readings in Church each Sunday.)
Children worshipping in their own style
Once a month we have a dedicated Children's Thanksgiving Feast in which children can participate in almost every part of the service. There is candle-lighting, interactive children's sermon (including drama, storytelling etc), songs written specially for children. When it comes to the Eucharist, the children can join the Thanksgiving Feast in front of the altar, and consume their bread and grape juice while the adults participate in the feast of bread and wine, surrounding the children. These services happen on the second Sunday of the month at 9.30am for an hour.
